It is necessary for the formation of collagen, elastin and intercellular substance, and thus for the proper development of cartilage, bones, teeth, wound healing, increases the elasticity of capillaries. It affects the formation of immune bodies in the body (believed to be involved in the production of immunoglobulins and interferon) and facilitates the absorption of iron in the intestines. It is necessary for the synthesis of adrenal steroids, catecholamines, insulin and is involved in the transformation of aromatic amino acids and thyroxine metabolism.
